'Tech-Know' Workshops

It's 'TECH-KNOW' Time at the library! Caledon Public Library is thrilled to be offering a series of twelve 'Tech-Know' workshops geared for techies and non-techies alike!  These fun FREE adult workshops will take place at the Albion Bolton Branch of Caledon Public Library, Computer Lab.  Advance registration is required.  For more information, please contact any branch of Caledon Public Library.  Sign up now as spaces are limited!

#1 - Picasa

Picasa is an image organizer and image viewer for editing and organizing ditigal photos.  It is an integrated photo sharing website that allows users to create an album online and post their photos to share with friends and family.

#2 - Skype

 

 

 

May 17th, 2012 @ 7pm

Skype is a free services that allows users to communicate with friends and family members by voice, video, and instant messaging over the Internet.  Skype has also become popular for its additional features, including file transfer, and videoconferencing.

 

#3 - Cloud Computing -Google Docs

 

Jun. 21st, 2012 @ 7pm Cloud Computing - Google Docs is a free, Web-based office suite and data storage service offered by Google. It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. Google Docs combines the features of Writely (web-based word processor) and Spreadsheets with presentation program as well as data storage of files up to 10GB total in size.  Documents, spreadsheets, presentations can be created with Google Docs, imported through the web interface, or sent via email. Documents can be saved to a user's local computer in a variety of formats they are also automatically saved to Google's servers to prevent data loss. 

#4 - Cloud Computing - Skydrive or Windows Live Skydrive

Sept. 20th, 2012 @ 7pm Cloud Computing - SkyDrive or Windows Live SkyDrive is a free file hosting service that allows users to upload files to cloud storage and then access them from a browser. It is part of Windows Live online services and allows users to keep the files private, share them with contacts, or make the files public for others to see. If you have a Windows Live account you can collaborate with others, share files, save your documents and presentations to cloud storage and access them from any mobile device anywhere anytime.

Monster.ca is one of the largest employment websites in the world.  The website is primarily used to help job seekers find job openings that match their skills and location. It is the leading career management portal that helps job seekers make the most of their working life by finding the best job, making the smart career move or hiring the right person.  

#6 - Craigslist

 

Nov. 22nd, 2012 @ 7pm Craigslist is a centralized network of online communities featuring free online classified advertisements, with sections devoted to jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, resumes, and discussion forums. 

#7 - WIX.com

 

Jan. 24th, 2013 @ 7pm Wix.com is an online free do-it-yourself website builder that allows people without any knowledge of web development to quickly and easily create stunning websites.  

#8 - Photobucket

 

Feb. 21st, 2013 @ 7pm Photobucket is the premier destination for uploading, downloading, sharing, linking and finding photos, videos and graphics. Host all your images and videos for free, then share them by email or on social sites like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Your free Photobucket account can store thousands of photos and hours of video.

Mar. 21st, 2013 @ 7pm TweetDeck is a free application that helps users get the most out of their experience on Twitter. TweetDeck allows users of Twitter to organize, update, and essentially handle all the replies, direct messages, re-tweets, and updates that come up.  Users can easily organize tweets they follow on Twitter into groups based on interests, and location. 

#10 - Kijiji

Kijiji is a centralized network of online classified advertisements. Kijiji is an environmentally friendly way to recycle things you no longer use without leaving your neighborhood. Because Kijiji connections are between people who live near each other, you can always see and touch an item before you buy.  With an easy-to-use format and an amazing variety of local ads, Kijiji is a unique community where everyone is committed to sharing.

 

#11 - Cloud Computing - Zoho Office Suite

 

 

May 16th, 2013 @ 7pm Cloud Computing - Zoho Office Suite is a free Web-based online office suite containing word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, note-taking, wiki, project management, invoicing and variety of other applications. Zoho applications are an example of cloud computing applications, whereby software utilities are hosted on remote servers rather than on personal computers. The user accesses the utilities via a web browser.

Jun. 20th, 2013 @ 7pm eBay is the world's online marketplace; a place for buyers and sellers to come together and trade almost anything. A place to get nearly anything you need or want at prices better than you can find in traditional brick-and-mortar or even online stores.
